ONE ACT BECAME A MOVEMENT.

The Vessel Movement evolved naturally—one willing person, one family and one growing community at a time.

December 2022–2023

HOW IT BEGAN

Vaughan resident Jennifer Stachowski felt called to support people experiencing homelessness. She collected essentials from family, friends and her social media community. A friend wanted to involve her children, so Jennifer, her daughter and another family gathered around an assembly line at home to prepare care packages.

What began as practical support became something more: children learning they could make a meaningful difference.

PEOPLE WERE WAITING FOR A WAY TO HELP.

The following year, the children were eager to participate again. After seeing people living in tents in downtown Toronto, the families delivered care packages to a homeless shelter. Meeting people affected by homelessness made the need real.

As Jennifer shared the experience online, people reached out. They wanted to donate, volunteer and involve their children—but many had not known where to begin.

In 2025, the word Vessel came strongly to Jennifer’s mind. Friends began noticing it too. It felt like confirmation: each of us can be a vessel of hope.

Hope on the streets

DIGNITY. CONVERSATION. CONNECTION.

Jennifer joined forces with Francesca Care, who shared the same passion for direct outreach. In December, four adults and one child spent approximately six hours walking the streets of downtown Toronto on the coldest day of the year. They distributed care packages, listened, encouraged and prayed with those who asked.

Messages poured in from people asking how they could take part next time. The Vessel Movement was taking shape.

Hope spreads

PAIN TRANSFORMED INTO PURPOSE.

Families, schools, businesses and people Jennifer had never met began contributing supplies, gift cards, Hope Notes, financial donations and their time.

After the tragic loss of her 18-month-old son Jacob, Jennifer’s friend Jessie led collections in Burlington, Oakville and Hamilton as a tribute to him—continuing to spread Jacob’s light through concrete acts of kindness.

As participation grew, The Vessel Movement became a federally incorporated not-for-profit, creating a foundation for greater reach, accountability and long-term impact.
